play music/video in fedora 7

hai. i'm using fedora 7 with compaq laptop. i just following the steps to install and using rthythmbox. when i wrote the command play /usr.../startup3.wmv , unfortunately there was no sound heard. is that means that my soundcard not detected? if so, what step i need to do to make me hear the music in linux.

i am using fedora 7. i want to play audio & video file .but by using this command play /usr/share/sounds/startup3.wav i am not hearing sound. what should i do. plz help me.
i have done all the steps which is told by you for fedora 7.all steps has done successfully but now problem is The playback of this movie requires the following decoders which are not installed:
Microsoft MPEG-4 4.3 decoder
Windows Media Audio 8 decoder

It is possible that your sound card is not detected. Be sure to check your volume control.
Do you see the Volume Control icon at the right hand side corner of your gnome-panel? If yes, double click it and raise the volume levels. And then try playing sound.
Also, paste the output of
